Em Dash Remover

Paste text and strip em dashes, smart quotes, and invisible watermark characters in one pass - grammar-aware, so it swaps dashes for the right punctuation instead of blindly deleting them.

An em dash remover is a free tool that replaces or deletes em dashes (-) and other AI-tell punctuation, turning machine-formatted text back into clean, natural prose.

    Frequently asked questions

Does removing em dashes bypass AI detection? +

No - and that isn’t the point. Swapping punctuation doesn’t reliably fool detectors, and chasing that is a losing game. This tool is for editing quality: it removes the mechanical em-dash habit so your writing reads like a person wrote it.

What does it do besides em dashes? +

It also normalizes smart/curly quotes to straight ones (or vice versa), strips zero-width and other invisible characters, and flags common AI tells so you can fix cadence and clichés by hand.

Is my text uploaded or stored anywhere? +

No. Everything runs in your browser with plain JavaScript - your text is never uploaded, stored, or logged. Open your browser’s DevTools Network tab while you use it and you’ll see zero requests. The tool also works offline.
